[HEADLINE] I Lost Every Receipt I Had. Here's What That Embarrassing Tax Season Taught Me About Doula Admin.
—
I want to tell you something embarrassing.
Because I think it matters that the person you're about to trust with your business admin has sat exactly where you're sitting.
A while back, I was using Honeybook for my own doula practice. I'd set it up in a burst of organizational enthusiasm and then... largely ignored it. The interface felt clunky for how my brain worked. I didn't have a real workflow. I had intentions.
Tax season came.
I sat down to find my reimbursements, my mileage, my receipts. The records I was certain existed somewhere.
They did not exist somewhere.
They existed nowhere.
What followed was approximately two weeks of mild panic, intensive bank statement archaeology, and one very patient conversation with my accountant.
It was embarrassing. It cost me time and money I didn't have to spend. And here's the thing — I was already a detail-oriented person. I already cared about being organized. I just didn't have the right system, and I didn't know what I didn't know.
That experience changed me.
I got obsessive. I learned the tools — really learned them. Honeybook, eDOULA, Dubsado, Doulado, Mailchimp, all of it. I learned them not as an IT person, but as a doula. I understood why the workflows needed to work a specific way because I had lived the reason.
Now I'm fluent. And that fluency cost me.
I'm not selling you perfection. I'm selling you the version of this I had to learn by doing it wrong first.
The difference is: you don't have to do it wrong first. I already did that for us.
If you've ever ended a shift and thought, "I really need to get my admin together,". Hi. I'm Jillian. I'm The Doula Admin.
And I've been exactly where you are.
